The Red Hot Rock Stars are excited to participate in the SMGSA Spring

2008 Season!

News

Now that the softball regular season is

officially over, let me extend the following

thanks:

Thanks to all the parents and coaches that have

helped out in the practices and games;

Thanks to Coach Tim for sharing his wealth of

knowledge and experience as well as his time.

The girls undoubtedly benefitted greatly from his

coaching;

Thanks to Coach Joey for sharing his time and

effort as I’m sure a young high school boy may

not always put coaching a girls 8U softball team

at the top of his priority list;

Thanks to Coach Joan for helping at so many of

the practices and allowing the girls to get many

more repetitions in at practice;

Thanks to Coach Sean who also helped at many of

the practices and helped the girls keep busy;

Thanks to Coach Marco for also helping at many

of the practices and bringing his great projector

to the opening party so we could all enjoy a big

presentation of the movie Sandlot; The girls will

not soon forget the line from the movie: “You’re

killing me Smalls!”

Thanks to Sue and Jamaica for keeping score and

allowing me to not rely only on my memory in

writing the game recaps; Sue also gets thanks for

hosting our opening party which was a great kick-

off for the season and for taking some great

photos;

Thanks to Coach Mark for being at the practices

and always being there to pitch in and do

whatever was needed at practice; Also, thanks to

Coach Mark for generously providing free Dodger

tickets with food vouchers for all the Rock Stars

and their family members. The Dodger game with

all the Rock Stars and family members was a

great finale to the season;

Thanks to the best team mom, Megin, who also

helped at many of the practices and who

organized an awesome closing team party while

remembering the many people who helped coach

which, of course, only made her job bigger.

Thanks to Coach Odie and to Coach Devin who

both continue to get free room and board for their

coaching contributions. :^) Coach Odie and

Coach Devin unquestionably inspired the girls to

see that girls could indeed play this game called

softball and play it well. Also, Coach Odie and

Coach Devin showed the girls that it could be a lot

of fun;

Thanks to Coach A.D. for always being there, for

bringing great equipment to make the practices

more fun and more beneficial, for taking so many

great photos; for insuring that the Rock Stars

always had great rock music at the games and

practices (great play and great music became a

Rock Star trademark); and for organizing the

awesome team photo which is truly a very special

gift which I greatly appreciate.

Thanks to all the parents and family members

that supported the Rock Stars through this

season.

Many of the coaches from other teams

commented, with no small amount of envy, about

how the Rock Star practices were full of assistant

coaches and were a beehive of activity. This could

not have been done without the many

contributions which helped make coaching this

team a great experience.

I will share with you that one of the goals I had

before the season was to insure that each girl on

the team would end this season with much

greater softball skills than what they started the

season with. This goal was accomplished thanks

to all the help mentioned above. I remain

convinced that all the Rock Stars will continue to

improve in future seasons and enjoy much

greater success because of the work they did this

year.

Another goal was to win every game, and while

we didn’t quite do that, we were so close that we

could have won every game if only we had a little

better coach pitching. :^)

I hope that every Rock Star is better equipped for

success as they remember not to be afraid of

failing but to be afraid of not trying their best.

Also, the girls will always be able to say: “I was a

Rock Star!”

Thanks again to all and I hope to see all the Rock

Stars in future seasons at the Sierra Madre Girls

Softball league!

Go Rock Stars!
